Paint it Candi Black
Candi Black is all about rock 'n roll, we chat to the band.
Candi Black is making some waves in the local industry. The band members are Babette Labuschagne (vocals), Konstant de la Porte (guitar), Juan Roden (guitar), Adrian Vlok (bass) en Willem Sohnge (drums). The band is boasting a new line-up and is ready to spit its rock 'n roll fire.
Musiekvraat chats to the band.
How did the band start?
Babette got introduced to Lizzy-Love Mills in 2009. They were both tired of the male-dominated rock scene and formed the original line-up. About a year later the guys joined bit by bit and after one or two changes, the line-up shaped into what it is today.
What is the highlights for the band thus far?
Hearing your music on the radio is always great. We've had two tracks on the air with very positive response. And of course, sharing the stage with some major amazing bands and playing some really awesome festivals like Vredefest, Season's Wither and Tuks Jool.
What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?
We play rock & roll music with lots of energy and passion. (Some) influences include Joan Jett, Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster, Guano Apes, Foo Fighters, Julliette & The Licks and He Is Legend.
So Lizzy-Love is not in the band anymore?
We only have one front-women now - Lizzy-Love decided to quit the band in 2011.
Who is some of your favourite bands that you have performed with?
Chromium, The Narrow, Van Coke Kartel, Black Era, Flash Republic and many more.
Even though you are a relatively new band to the scene, some of your members have been in the music scene for some time?
Babette had a solo career, Juan played in Middelklas and Middle Inside, Willem played in Chaos Theory and Sesling, Adrian played in Middle Inside. It's a colourful background, but it seems to make sense when we get together.
Who is the mad one in the band?
We all have our moments, but Juan seems to take it to new heights every now and then. But you’ll have to see it to believe it.
Craziest thing to happen at a show?
It's been said that Adrian was last seen at Thornfest downing a bottle of Johnny Walker. THAT turned out quite crazy.
Two singles have been owning on some local radio stations, when can we expect some awesome music videos?
We are busy working on the music video for our new single B(l)ackfire. So keep your eyes glued to the TV set from August. An EP is also on the cards for the end of 2011.
What is your goals for the next few months?
Top priorities are the music video, writing some new material and playing on every single stage in the country. Book us now!
